TYRONE AND SABINA - CAST OFFS CRACK SHOTS

Cast off (Crack shots)
The clip we watched was “cast off crack shots” this clip shows disability as pity, because the character is blind. This allows the audience to feel sympathetic towards him, because he says he is scared of the dark.

We can see that he is vulnerable, because he has gun and when he hears sound he picks the gun and points it where he hears the sound. We can see the character is weak and has lack of autonomy, because he talks to himself. The character has lack of autonomy, because he has no control of what he cannot see.

The dialogue he uses is a metaphor, because he says if it's dark then he is scared, but all he can see is darkness. Because it's a reality T.V show it tries to show disabled people as “normal” even though there disabled.

The clip reprsents isolation as the character is alone in a deserted area.

SHAMIMA, MUSTAFA, RASHID DIVING BELL AND BUTTERFLY EXTRACT

In a Hospital. Shown from his point of view-it is shown in an out of focus way which may show us that he has a blurred vision. it is in 1st person point of view.
We find out later that he was the editor-in-cheif of Elle magazine and suffered from a stroke. He can' walk or talk. So this kind of gets in the way of his success, which makes us sympathise for him. He also doesn' want his children to see him in the state he is in, maybe he feels ashamed/ embarrassed. He has lack of autonomy as he is put on a wheel chair and through his thoughts he is saying 'its an honour that he can handle a wheel chair' in a sarcastic way. Also when he sees his reflection for the first time he gets in a state of shock as he says'Oh my god, whos that? Me?' He thinks he looks horrible. We share his emotions and lack of understanding of the situation as it's from his point of view, and when he needs to communicate he has to blink one for yes, and two for no.

TAMANNA AND SONIA - CAST OFFS

Cast offs (trailer) is shown disability as 'pity' in the programme because it allows the audience to feel sympathy for the individuals in the programme as they are not able bodied .
Cast offs also leaves the audiences to forgive them for their behaviour.

The sound in Cast offs include some dialogues, however it also contains a score made for the programme is upbeat and is a non-diagetic sound.

The camera shots of individuals in cast off tries to portray the indisviduals to appear vulnearbale and weak but yet try to live a ordinary life as an able bodied person would, this emphasises the disbailities.

Previously stated about sounds in Cast offs, the up beat and fast pace music gives a sense of realism as they are trying to live a normal life, the sound also connotes able bodied person/people live a busy and rushed lifestyle.

The locations in Cast offs is set in a dessert/forrest, open space, bathroom and bedroom.

MARIA AND RESHMA - CAST OFFS TEA'S UP

We felt that this fell under the Disability as a burden and disability as pity functions.
The character's ex-wife and son have come to visit him. The fact that the son has his back to his dad symbolises that they don't really accept him as a part of the family. This allows the audience to be sympathetic towards the man with the disability and also shows that he's like a burden to the family. The ex-wife picks at her tea as though there is something wrong with it because the disabled man made it.

A medium shot is used to represent the man's isolation and vulnerability in contrast to the close up shot of his ex-wife who seems the more dominant character. The setting is cluttered which shows that the man is not capable of doing certain things and needs support this makes the audience pity him.

The ex-wife also recognises that the character hasn't been washing properly which reinforces the idea that he is struggling with everyday life.

The man gets up and goes to the room. He becomes frustrated quickly which shows his frustration at not being treated like a normal human being.

RUHUL AND NAIM CAST OFFS DAN'S STORY

The clip starts off with a flashback and we know this because of the written code which appears on the screen saying "4 Months Earlier". Also because of the camera focus and the background colour.

Towards the end of the clip we feel more sympathatic about his diability as he is left alone on a deserted island by himself. In this clip they show a long shot of him and he looks inferior because the surrounding makes jim look small and powerless. The audience will have no hope in him as his diability gives us the image that he will rot and die in the island and he has no chance of survival.

Water seems to be significant in this extract because at the start he's got his hand in a bowl of water and is later in a boat which could explain that he possibly has a phobia of water, which he may be keen to overcome even when he has a disability. The background in both settings is white which could represent his feelings towards his disability
