The clip starts off with a flashback and we know this because of the written code which appears on the screen saying "4 Months Earlier". Also because of the camera focus and the background colour.
Towards the end of the clip we feel more sympathatic about his diability as he is left alone on a deserted island by himself. In this clip they show a long shot of him and he looks inferior because the surrounding makes jim look small and powerless. The audience will have no hope in him as his diability gives us the image that he will rot and die in the island and he has no chance of survival.
Water seems to be significant in this extract because at the start he's got his hand in a bowl of water and is later in a boat which could explain that he possibly has a phobia of water, which he may be keen to overcome even when he has a disability. The background in both settings is white which could represent his feelings towards his disability
